Shutdown talk after the jump
Upon seeing mixed polling over the weekend indicating that the public is assigning blame on them, Democrats backtracked and agreed to vote for cloture on a clean spending bill. Most political pundits are viewing this as a Democrat cave, and even Feinstien (who voted no today) admitted the loss.
Regardless of your political leanings, and despite my partisan tone above, hopefully we can all agree that keeping the government functioning is a good thing, and hopefully our elected officials can proceed towards responsible bipartisan legislation going forward and beginning with the congressional authorization of DACA with common sense border security.

I rightfully blamed the Republicans last time and rightfully blamed the Democrats this time. You don’t get to hold the government hostage just because you can.

Hooray for Canada!
(sorry you all live in a political shitshow)

A temporary spending bill punts the ball a month down the road and puts Republican’s in a situation to put their votes where their mouths are on the promised 2/8 DACA vote. They try to pull the rug out from under us again? We’ll have a replay of this weekend’s shutdown.

Fun fact: Last time the US government shutdown it was during a time where my wife and I had a vacation in Virginia. It kinda ruined all our plans but we did get a unique view of our capitol being basically empty. Also it rained when I went to Cars and Coffee at Katies.

Indeed, it will reflect better for future voters if the Dems can obstruct something without impacting peoples livelihoods.
And now the soulless dead-eyed press secretary can find something new for a sanctimonious press release, and they can take down the shamefully juvenile (and perfect for this worst regime in American history) WH answering machine message. Come on WaPo, bust these crooks open.

This is why the budget now has 81 votes, per CNBC:
“Since Friday, some Democrats, including Schumer and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., have expressed a willingness to compromise on Trump’s proposed border wall in order to secure protections for the young undocumented immigrants.”
Their open to the wall if it means Dreamers don’t get south of it. This is some damn good negotiations right here, no lie.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This is all I need to assign blame for the shut down. Fuck the GOP for holding CHIP hostage. CHIP should have never been a bargaining piece. I can’t wait for McConnell to take back his super serious offer to debate DACA after Feb 8, and for the Dems to whine about the Wolf telling them he won’t eat any more sheep even though that’s all the wolf fucking does .
Republican in the White House, and a Republican majority in the Senate and House, but the Democrats shut down the government. Right. Fuck everyone - I’m voting for a nuclear holocaust in November.

Pardon my rant here:
Wasting a stupid amount of taxpayer money on a wall that will not be effective isn’t common sense border security. Investing more in our Border Patrol (in employees, equipment, training, and mental health) would be common sense. People will find a way over/through the wall. The drugs are being flown over the boarder these days, so a wall won’t do anything to stop that. And the Border Patrol has the highest suicide rate of any law enforcement agency; nearly double the national average.
But we apparently don’t care about mental health in this country, so let’s just build a giant wall instead. #logic

Can’t wait to see what they do when the non-permanent parts of the tax con (not the breaks given to corporations, shocking!) come up for renewal.

It’s the Republicans’ own fault for not backing down on that stupid border wall and their batshit crazy immigration/deportation stance

So, they’re just kicking it three weeks down the road? How does this actually solve anything?
This country hasn’t had a budget in 3 years. That continuing resolution bullshit doesn’t actually solve the problem. Spending is still at 2015 levels when costs have gone up.
I’m sick of all the infighting in Politics. These people were elected to represent us, the people. They sure are doing a lousy job of it.
You know what I’d like to see? A president sign an Executive Order limiting Congressional term limits. That’s the only way that change might happen.

What it boils down to is that other people’s livelihoods are bargaining chips in their power game. The way politics is played is that you’re not the one who gets the prize, or even a player. You’re the same as a little piece of clay on a green felt. You don’t even have the money to be their interest. Since I’m not in a swing state, or a special interest group, I quite literally do not matter. Why are Iowa and New Hampshire such big states politically during presidential races despite having a whopping TEN electoral votes out of 538 available? They gamed the system to put themselves first and be more important. They are happy to hold one end of a barrier and scream that the truck would be able to pass if the other guy let go. As if they aren’t guilty of blocking things working.

Its not a damn sports game, you dont win or lose. Or rather, everyone loses when this crap happens. Having the government stay shut down is ridiculous regardless of which side is responsible. There is no pride kept by keeping things shut down. It ends up costing more money to everyone anyways in the long run. I just dont understand why compromises and agreements seem to be impossible. Why does one side have to be right and one side wrong? We can all coexist and find a middle ground but congress seems to always seesaw from left to right and never really get anywhere.

I was hoping the federal government would shut down permanently and stop taxing me, I would be fine with that. There’s zero value add and a voracious appetite to spend, do away with the Feds altogether.

...hopefully our elected officials can proceed towards responsible bipartisan legislation going forward...
That’s not, at all, how any of this works. It’s how it should work, though.
